Most hotel accommodation in New Zealand has bar and restaurant facilities and the rooms include a phone, TV, bathroom and usually tea/coffee-making facilities. Country hotel accommodation and pubs are sometimes in modernised historic buildings, while sporting lodges and up market resorts offer exclusive locations with top-class facilities.

Motel Accommodation (Self-contained) in New Zealand

Self-contained motel accommodation in New Zealand is a popular option for travellers who enjoy the convenience of in-unit kitchen facilities and a private bathroom. Most rooms in a motel also have a phone, TV, made-up beds, with all linen supplied, and car parking. Motel accommodation is nearly always serviced daily, whereas apartments, cottages and holiday homes can be self-serviced.

A motel studio is a 1-room unit where guests sleep in the lounge area. 1, 2 and 3-bedroom units have separate bedrooms in addition to the lounge area, which sometimes has a bed-settee for additional sleeping. Breakfast in motel accommodation (at extra cost) is usually available and can be ordered the previous night for delivery to the unit if required.

New Zealand motel accommodation is suitable for those who want more home comforts than camping has to offer, but will not cost the Earth. Most New Zealand motels are of a high standard and are owner-operated, which means service is usually at a premium.

Some holiday apartments are self-serviced, while others are serviced daily. Many offer long-term rates.

Fully self-contained tourist flats are ideal for a family or a group of 4 to 6 persons. With a separate bedroom, you are assured of maximum comfort during your stay. Each of the unit offers: Queen bed in the main room, Separate bedroom with either two sets of single bunk beds or a single bed and a set of single bunk beds.
